Our Lady of Sorrows - 5020 Rhodes Ave, St. Louis, MO 63109

Wayfinding / Greening:
(2 out of 4 Fishes)

Except for sign on Kingshighway, no other sign to cafeteria. Line for food was fast and efficient. Negative was all styrofoam containers.
More signs now.  Sign at Kingshighway and signs on the doors to their (recently new) parish center. Ordering was simple, pick up your food through the line and pay at the end.  At 6pm, there was no wait.  Still no visible recycling (and lots of styrofoam).  Although, there was only bulk condiments - which cut down on the waste.

Food

Cod was average, but potato salad was excellent! The potato salad had celery seed on salad dressing. Large servings and a variety of desserts. Menu also included 6-piece fried shrimp.
A tale of two cods. The baked cod was large, rounded fillets.  The fried cod appeared to be pre-breaded cod fillets on the thin side.  I skipped the cod (which I hardly ever do) and went with the fried shrimp.  The potato salad was still a highlight.  Also, the hushpuppies were a fried cornmeal type hushpuppy - which was very good.  Good selection of desserts.  Entree choices were baked and fried cod, and fried shrimp.  Sides included fries, mac and cheese, hushpuppies, cole slaw, potato salad

Value:

$7 for 2 pieces of cod with tea and coffee. $0.50 for desserts. No kids meal, although they did have pizza.
$9 for adults, $5 for kids under 12.  Dessert and drinks included.  Beer $2.  Soda $1??  $About $35 for our family of five.

Atmosphere:

Small cafeteria packed with people created loud but festive atmosphere. Parishioners very friendly and lots of kids. Teens were the bulk of the workers and very eager.
You walk through the new parish center on the way to the cafeteria, so it's a great entry experience.  Cafeteria was full, but not overly crowded.  Good din of conversation.  Real chairs.  The volunteers had great aprons (Thank Cod it's Friday).  Friendly teenage volunteers cleared out plates.

Overall:
3 out of 4. A good and lively south city fish fry. Highlights were the potato salad. A good all around stop.
We hadn't been here in 7 years!  Still a good all around fish fry.  The fried Cod was a little disappointing, but the fried shrimp was good substitute.  Friendly volunteers were a highlight.

Year End Reviews

Sometimes it is hard to compare fish fries from year to year. Comparing that Cod from 2014 to 2008 can be a little tough. With that in mind, below is a yearly re-cap for each of the following years. We got a little busy in 2015, then 2017-2019 went by in a blur, so we are missing a few years, so sorry!

Fan Poll Winners - Best Fish Fry

Every year Friday Night Fish hosts a fan poll to crown a yearly fan favorite Fish Fry. It's a two step process with Round 1 selecting five finalists, and Round 2 voting from the final five to crown the yearly fan champion. So get ready every year for the annual poll and get your supporters voting for your favorite fish fry! We had some voting "irregularities" in 2014, so we discontinued the poll (for now).

For a recap of past winners see Past Fan Poll Winners.
