Our Lady of Guadalupe - 1115 South Florissant Road, Ferguson, MO

Wayfinding / Greening:

(1 out of 4 Fishes)
Even with Garmin, we drove past the entrance to Our Lady of Guadalupe  and ended up at the entrance to McCluer South H.S.  However, quickly resolved and we were in the parking lot of the fish fry.  No real signs however directing us to the door.  A restaurant "A" and an open door were clues that the fish fry may have been inside.  Once inside, there may have been too many signs and menu configurations.  We were early on the first fish fry Friday of the season, so the volunteers were still getting oriented.  They were friendly in helping us figure out what to order.  All styrofoam and individual condiment packages.  No visible recycling.

Food:

Food was a strong suit.  Cod was good, perhaps not upper tier, but very satisfactory.  My wife's fish tacos were very good.  Also a variety of menu items including potato tacos, quesadillas, and clam chowder.  The homemade salsa was a highlight.  Go for the hot salsa (it's not too hot).  Cole slaw was excellent.  Fries and hush puppies were so-so.  We didn't have any of the potato tacos, however we should have because they looked delicious.

Value:

Good value.  Our family of 5 was $24.  A little confusing on pricing.  Family meal (2 adults and 2 kids) was $20.  Kids meals were $4 but only included one (1), yes one only, hush puppy.  However, you could get 5 hush puppies for a dollar.  Adult meal was $8 which included drink (lemonade or tea).  Desserts were extra at $0.50.  Salsa and chips were $2. No beer.  Soda was $0.50.

Atmosphere:

Supposedly a late arriving crowd.  We were there from 5 to 5:45 which is usually fairly crowded for fish fries, but sparsely attended here.  There was going to be entertainment later.  Someone said that when church ended at 6pm, it got busy.  So it had potential for a lively atmosphere with an open and large hall, with comfortable tables and chairs.  Plenty of room so as not to feel crowded.

Overall
2.5 out of 4
A good and interesting fish fry.  Great potential.  With the first Friday of the year, some new volunteers, and some new menu items, it may not have been as smooth as it will be later in the fish fry year.  Some unique choices with the fish and potato tacos.  Salsa, as mentioned, was delicious.  Staff was very friendly and for a smaller parish, they put together a great meal.  If you need other beverages, you can always stop by Ferguson Brewery Company just up the street before or after you go.  If you are looking for a less crowded, Mexican style fish fry, stop by Lady of Guadalupe.

I WORKED AS A VOLUNTEER AT OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE AND THE SERVICE IS OUTSTANDING! THE ENTERTAINMENT IS OUT OF THIS WORLD.

THIS FISH FRY AT GUADALUPE IS THE PLACE TO BE DURING FISH FRY. I ENJOYED THEIR FOOD AS A CUSTOMER, MY HUSBAND KIDS AND I ENJOYED THE TASTY FOODS WHICH WAS SEASONED PERFECTLY. THE VARIETY OF FOODS AND REASONABLE PRICING OF THE FOODS/DRINK IS GREAT! IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME COME OUT TO THEIR FISH FRY AND SEE FOR YOUSELF. THE SERVERS ARE WARM AND FRIENDLY.

EATING AT GUADALUPE IS JUST LIKE GOING HOME TO PA AND MA...PULL UP A CHAIR, WHY DONT YOU! AND JOIN OUR FAMILY...WE ALL SERVE THE SAME GOD!!

  7. This is the "BEST" Fish Fry in North County, all of the Archdiocese of St Louis, and ALL of St Louis period! Great food, great entertainment, a wonderful group of volunteers to prepare and serve you. Where else can you get potato tacos, spinach enchiladas, and homemade salsa along with a traditional "fish fry" fare - Nowhere, that's where! So come and enjoy - We hope to see you here!

  8. I enjoy the fish, mac and cheese. Oh don't let me forget the apples. I am going back this Friday for another plate. I enjoy the live entertainment and the nice people. Our Lady Of Guadalupe has some great food. So come on in where can you go to feed a family of 4 for $20.00 and the food be really good. Guadalupe I tell you.

  9. I just tried it this year(2012), as my family loves Mexican fish fries.

PROS: VERY friendly people, not crowded, and nice selection of entrees and sides. Food tasted pretty good, and we were all very full and satisfied when we left. Also, you get 2 chile rellenos with your order—you’re not limited to just one as you are at St. Cecilia’s. We also ordered two kinds of fish (catfish and cod) and the fish tacos. The tilapia ceviche (sp?) looked good, but we had already ordered too much other stuff to try it.

CONS: No menu to read until you’re at the table to order, so if you have multiple people in your group, you kind of feel rushed. It's also hard to anticpate what your final cost will be. This makes it hard if you're on a budget. Also, you only see some of the food upfront when you order (many items are in a separate area) so it’s hard to decide what looks good. There were very few condiments (didn’t see any ketchup), and the whole order wasn’t as cheap as I hoped it would be. My family of 5 spent $35. My husband and I each had a meal, plus my three kids shared a pound of fish and two large sides. It didn't seem like that much food for the price, and we also shared two drinks between the five of us. Dessert was free, but choices were limited.

OVERALL, we would go again for the different menu options, but we’d probably only go once a year. No entertainment when we were there, but we think that would greatly enhance the experience.

Year End Reviews

Sometimes it is hard to compare fish fries from year to year. Comparing that Cod from 2014 to 2008 can be a little tough. With that in mind, below is a yearly re-cap for each of the following years. We got a little busy in 2015, then 2017-2019 went by in a blur, so we are missing a few years, so sorry!

Fan Poll Winners - Best Fish Fry

Every year Friday Night Fish hosts a fan poll to crown a yearly fan favorite Fish Fry. It's a two step process with Round 1 selecting five finalists, and Round 2 voting from the final five to crown the yearly fan champion. So get ready every year for the annual poll and get your supporters voting for your favorite fish fry! We had some voting "irregularities" in 2014, so we discontinued the poll (for now).
