American Legion Soulard - 2601 S 11th St, St. Louis, MO 63118

Wayfinding / Greening
(2 out of 4 fishes

The first year we went they had a ton of Friday Night Fish "Fan" signs, so they already are off to a good start.  Ordering is simple, so not much signage needed.  Either full or half plates,  every plate is cooked to order.

Food

Some great food.  Every plate is cod, green beans, cole slaw, and mac-n-cheese.  Green beans and cole slaw were great.  The Cod very good.  Nice and crispy coating, and hot and flaky on the inside.  The Cod is fresh from the fryer, so its piping hot.  Desserts were also excellent.   I had the apple crisp.
Year after year - always so good!

Value

Good value.  $10 for full plates, $7 for half plates.  Includes dessert.  Drinks were $1 for soda and water.  $1.50 for regular drafts, $2 for shock top drafts.   $7/$10 for pitchers.
2023 update:  $15 for full plate.  $10 for half plates.

Atmosphere

Friendly volunteers bring your plates to your table after you order.  A little cozy on space.  If you get there past 5:30, you could be waiting for a seat or getting to know your neighbors very well.  If it's warm enough, there are a bunch of picnic tables outside.

Overall
3 out of 4.  We ventured outside of our usual parish fish fries to try the American Legion in Soulard.  Great fish fry.  Excellent Cod and good service.  If you are looking for a change of pace in the City, try the American Legion.  Just be prepared for a cozy confines.  However, if the weather is nice, this can be a great place to enjoy some outdoor seating.
This is on our yearly list and one of our favorites!  They keep it simple and do a great job.  They updated the breading on the fried Cod this year - just a subtle extra kick of spice.  But it made an already good Cod even better!  Check it out.

Year End Reviews

Sometimes it is hard to compare fish fries from year to year. Comparing that Cod from 2014 to 2008 can be a little tough. With that in mind, below is a yearly re-cap for each of the following years. We got a little busy in 2015, then 2017-2019 went by in a blur, so we are missing a few years, so sorry!

Fan Poll Winners - Best Fish Fry

Every year Friday Night Fish hosts a fan poll to crown a yearly fan favorite Fish Fry. It's a two step process with Round 1 selecting five finalists, and Round 2 voting from the final five to crown the yearly fan champion. So get ready every year for the annual poll and get your supporters voting for your favorite fish fry! We had some voting "irregularities" in 2014, so we discontinued the poll (for now).

For a recap of past winners see Past Fan Poll Winners.
